Mysterious Creatures, white yorkshire terriers
67White Yorkshire Terriers are mysterious, elusive creatures. White yorkies include a wide range of yorkies of various types. White yorkies have become increasingly popular in recent years. The news of white yorkies continues to spread, and more and more people every day become interested in learning more about the white yorkie.
White yorkies are gorgeous creatures, deemed as rare and special by many. While white yorkies may be sought after and priced high by some breeders, rightfully or wrongfully, such a strange subtype of dog raises many questions for researchers of the yorkshire terrier breed. Are white yorkies full bred yorkies? How rare are white yorkies? Are white yorkies more valuable than regularly marked yorkshire terriers? Among the many questions that may be asked about the white yorkie, the most controversial line of questioning begins: Why are full bred yorkies forbidden to be white? What reasoning does the American Kennel Club (AKC) have in mentioning in the breed description that yorkshire terriers should have no more than one inch of white hair? What threat could white yorkies possibly pose to the entire breed of yorkshire terriers?
White yorkies describes a general group of yorkies. There
are white yorkies who are not actually full bred yorkshire terriers but
instead crosses between yorkies and other predominantly white breeds of
dogs. There are white yorkies who are full bred. Even white
yorkies whose ancestry can be traced through several
generations are questioned. Usually they who are
considered full bred are called Biewer yorkies, and other full bred
white yorkies are called Parti yorkies.
Some theorize that yorkshire terriers were bred with the maltese breed for a thicker coat centuries ago. This would explain why some supposedly full bred yorkshire terriers are born with small white patches of hair. Usually, in adulthood more than one inch of white hair signifies that a yorkie is not full bred. However, recently discovered is the white biewer yorkie and the parti yorkie. Owners and breeders of these white yorkies claim that the biewer and parti yorkie is, in fact, a full bred yorkie. These breeders are able to document full bred yorkshire terrier ancestry over generations.
