Stricter Penalties to decrease # of drunk driving related incidents

Drunk Driving is considered a serious crime all over the country. All states have enacted laws that will regulate and effectively blow off the courage of drunk drivers. In Arizona alone, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration together with US Dept. of Transportation has compiled cases of road accidents. From the record, the number of alcohol-related accidents has been observed to have contributed much on the fatalities. By reason of the alarming figure that can be observed from the record, the stricter penalties have also been imposed in order to deter further accidents.

Notably, any crash accident can only be defined as alcohol-related death when the fatalities that occurred involved an occupant or driver positive of blood alcohol concentration (BAC). The law has specifically stated that 0.8% of blood alcohol content is enough to prove that one is drunk. This is measured by proving that 0.08 grams of liquor can be found in every 100 grams of the blood. Higher than 0.08% alcohol content is without a doubt a crime when in the driver’s seat.

Based on the statistics provided by the government, the highest number of alcohol-related death reached as high as 58% or 582 out of 1,007 fatalities in one year. This has been recorded in 1986. Although the number of fatalities declined in the following years, the number has increased in 2006. The year 2006 also has the highest number of fatalities with regard to road accidents. But out of that, 502 were alcohol-related deaths. In merely a period of one year, hundreds of lives have lost for reason of alcohol. Furthermore, by observing the figure, the number of traffic fatalities has been increasing since 1999. Concomitant to it is also the increasing number of fatalities involving alcohol use and blood alcohol content. In the following years, the number can also be on the increasing trend if people will continue to be heedless on the road laws.

In further curtailment of alcohol-related deaths, the state of Arizona has bestowed severe penalties for driving under influence and blood alcohol content. Once convicted of the crime, one can be thrown behind bars to serve a considerable period of time. One can also be rehabilitated or made to pay a fine. A stricter penalty of cancelling the offender’s driver’s license is also being imposed. Notably, due to the seriousness of the offense, a special DUI court has been created. Some wonder if an Arizona DUI Lawyer is ethical to practice when they represent what many consider potential lethal killers.
