Listerine Pet Care
78Listerine at its Best: For your pet!
Does your dog ever have bad breath? Mine surely does. And I can assure you, as much as I love the little guys, I don't enjoy waking up to stinky dog breath! I do on occasion brush my dog's teeth, but not nearly as often as I brush my own! I mean really, who has the time to brush their pet's teeth day and night?
Listerine & Pet Care: A valuable Option when you know How
We all know that gingivitis is obnoxious, especially when a pet has it. But what about our poor pup's health? Poor dental hygiene can really increase a dog's heath risk, just like it can for the dog's owners. Many diseases can be spread from the mouth to the organs just because the owner of a set of teeth was neglectful.
While brushing a dog's teeth may be time consuming and exhausting for both the pet and it's owner, a solution exists that will cause you both much less pain and anguish. What if you gave your dog Listerine? What are the health risks?
Please know that most products that are deemed safe to us humans are not safe to dogs merely because of the concentration. Many products need to be diluted several times. This formula of dilution should be made relative to the dog's size in comparison to the average adult just to be safe. For example, if your pet weighs 20 pounds, an average human weight might be 150. Divide 150 by 20 = 7.5. For a dog of this size, Listerine should be diluted at a ratio of 7.5; add 7.5 times as much water as Listerine and you have the concoction of Listerine that will be safe for your dog.

I put Listerine in a spray bottle, diluted with about a third water. My dog hates it, but it really helps the bad breath issue. Also, Listerine undiluted sprayed once in each ear as a weekly maintenance keeps them clean and free from odor causing bacteria. If the ear is infected, you will need to dilute because of the burning, or you can put a little vaseline on the irritated areas and then spray which should help with the burn. Once you spray, gently clean the ear, repeat daily as needed. My dogs ear infection went completely away after a one week treatment.
